 #urgh okay this hurts be in ugly post-Reichenbach places#mostly because of that utter perfect circle the show took John in #it gave him everything and then tore it from under him until he was just the man he was in an empty apartment in A Study in Pink #Until he was made of barriers and shells all over again - of a stiffened jaw and a military stance #But also because I’m sick of people treating post-Rechenbach John like an angsting teenage girl #there’s a big difference between a shattered life and a colourless one #Because John Watson will keep going #in the cruel way that all things keep going but particularly in the way John Watson does #John Watson who was sent to a war zone and saw terrible things and did terrible things that he’ll never ever forgot and just kept going #John Watson who was shot in the shoulder discharged and sent to an empty city and just kept going #A London without Sherlock will fade and shrink - it’ll dull around its edges and drain of its colour #Maybe John will move into a small plain faded apartment #where he keeps an ashtray from Buckingham palace in a box in the back of his bedroom cupboard #But he’ll stiffen his jaw and straighten his stance and swallow it down and just keep going #Because it’s who he is. #Because he’s tested it and proven it time and time again against things that should have broken anyone else #But they didn’t and they won’t #and he won’t be dramatic and there won’t be a show of it but he’ll silently push it all down and tuck it away #and use it to stiffen and strengthen him later #and he’ll just keep going
